Cyclist killed as lorry knocks him down

A cyclist who was knocked down by a lorry sustained serious injuries and died on admission to the Negambo General Hospital, the Police said. The victim, Nimalsiri Jayaratne (52) of Polwatte, Waradala was cycling when he was knocked down by a lorry that tried to overtake him. The driver of the lorry had rushed him to Akkaragama Hospital.

However, the victim was transferred in critical condition to Negombo General Hospital where he succumbed o his injuries.

The driver of the lorry was taken into custody by Kotadeniyawa Police.
