SLABSA donates baseball gear in NP

The Sri Lanka Amateur Baseball/softball Associatio­n (SLABSA) conducted a project in the Northern Province (NP) to donate baseball equipment to eight schools from Jaffna and Kilinochch­i at the Jaffna Central College recently.

The project was supported by Horizon Campus and the Rotary Club.

Students from Jaffna Central, St. Patrick’s College, Jaffna, St. John’s College, Jaffna, Hartley College, Point Pedro, Jaffna Hindu Ladies’ College, Vembadi Girls’ High School, Jaffna, Holy Family Convent, Jaffna and Kilinochch­i MMV received baseball gear consisting of bats, gloves, helmets, catcher kits and balls.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SLABSA, Priyantha Ekanayake told the Daily Mirror that the event was well attended and they plan to conduct a similar programme in three months time.

He shared that they are in talks with the Japan Internatio­nal Cooperatio­n Agency (JICA) to have a coach based in Jaffna as part of their efforts to develop the game in the Northern Province.

He went on to add that they are also training individual­s based in those areas to become coaches of the sport in future.
