Ashan records first win for SL

Sri Lanka’s Ashan Prematileke recorded the first win for his country at the Asian Schools Boxing Tournament worked off at the Kuwait City Boxing Stadium yesterday.

The schoolboy from Sri Dheerananda MV outfoxed Omar Alotaibi of Kuwait in the 35-40kg bout. Ashan with this win qualified for the quarter-finals and will now meet the Turkmenistan boxer today.

However, Sri Lanka’s Dulran Weerasinghe and Kavindu Karunasinghe lost their bouts to Joshua Sorillo of the Philippines and P. Paochanthuek of Thailand respectively.

Meanwhile M. T. S. Reman and A. W. T. D. Dissanayake are scheduled to meet boxers from India and Jordan today.
