The sixth death anniversar­y of renowned stage drama director Sunil Chandrasir­i falls on August 8. Sunil Chandrasir­i entered the stage scene via Jayalath Manoratnes ‘Puthra Samagama’ and later directed ‘Ginidandu Sevana’, Bheema Bhumi’, ‘Samavenna Veradeemak’, ‘Don Juan’, ‘Mayadevi’,‘jana Mithuro’, Adaranayee Sanwadayak and others. ‘Adaraneeya Sanvadayak’ won awards for the best direction and best production at the National Drama Festival and his ‘Sindu Kirillee’ won the award for the best translatio­n. Sunil Chandrasir­i’s previous plays fetched top awards to several leading artistes including Janaka Kumbukage and Jagath Chamila who walked away with awards for the best actor, Sarath Kothelawel­a and W. Jayasiri — best supporting actor awards while Menike Attanayake won a special jury award for the best actress. Sunil’s ‘Samawenna Weradiy Ma’ has been nominated in the best play and best director’s categories.
