Perspective from Imran Khan

-

A perspective, so cogent, from a Cricketing legend on the governance philosophy of a country. It is very heartening to note that a renowned sportsman who was democratically elected as the Prime Minister of Pakistan, humbly admits the fallacious manner in which his country was governed under a corrupt political system. He further states that the failure of his country’s government can be attributed to his predecessors who were at the helm during their respective tenures in the past.

He laments that the two South Asian countries, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, have been plagued with this morbid culture that is a cocktail of corruption, nepotism, and avarice, that have nurtured a system of blatant immunity and impunity. It has also fostered dynastic rulers, where it has been quite evident that widespread political gerrymandering is encouraged for leadership to be bestowed on their offspring and siblings to govern the country.

The parallel this cricketing legend draws juxtaposing the corrupt political system with the Sri Lankan scenario is plausible. Our country, Sri Lanka, too undoubtedly can be dumped into this morbid and decomposed system of governance.the government of the day and the ones that preceded it for the last

71 years since we were endowed with independence have regrettably failed to deliver on their promises and instead have plunged the country into a diabolical fiasco.
