Cool Planet joins Helpage to collect funds for free cataract surgeries
One of Sri Lanka’s main fashion destinations, Cool Planet recently joined hands with Helpage Sri Lanka to support its endeavour of collecting funds from the general public to perform free cataract surgeries for underprivileged senior citizens in the country.
Cool Planet has agreed to place Helpage charity tills at its main shopping centre in Pelawatte, Battaramulla, and in its outlets in Colombo, Kandy, Wattala, Maharagama, Nugegoda and Malabe, to enable its customers to donate for a worthy cause of enabling and empowering the county’s underprivileged elderly citizens.
This agreement was reached, and the decision to place charity tills was made, by Cool Planet Directress Ramma Wickrama and Helpage Executive Director Samantha Liyanawaduge.
Cool Planet Managing Director M.N.M. Nazme said that the company is more than happy to place Helpage charity tills in its shopping centres, since the funds are utilised to perform free cataract surgeries of underprivileged senior citizens.
Cool Planet Directress Ramma Wickrama highlighted that the establishment has been helping needy citizens to improve their health conditions and social activities through their corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
Helpage Executive Director Samantha Liyanawaduge admired the management of Cool Planet for offering their invaluable support to improve the vision of needy people in our society. He said that the free cataract surgeries are performed at Helpage Eye Hospital, Sinsapa Road, Wellawatta (Opposite Savoy Cinema).
Helpage also provides citizens with free disability equipment such as wheelchairs, crutches, hearing aids, spectacles and also conducts free mobile medical and eye camps islandwide.
According to statistics, more than 36,000 free cataract surgeries have been successfully completed at Helpage Eye Hospital over the past 18 years.
Helpage Sri Lanka is a notfor-profit charitable organization and works to resolve the social, medical and low vision issues faced by Sri Lankan elderly citizens.
