Killing of businessman; eight suspects arrested

A group of eight suspects including a woman have been arrested in connection with the murder of a businessman at Jambugasmulla and five vehicles used by the suspects seized by Kohuwala Police. They were arrested during investigations that lasted for more than a week. A police team under OIC Dehiwala police IP Dileepa Perera had conducted investigations.

Businessman Ranawana Sisil Ruwan Perera (38) of Udahamulla, and another were travelling in a Jeep in the early hours of July 28, when the suspects waylaid and shot them.

One of the suspects had been arrested immediately after the incident and others during investigations that lasted till August 05. Police had seized two vans, a luxury car , a trishaw, two motorcycles, four cellular phones, and a pistol with seven live bullets used by the gang. The suspects were from Dehiwala, Kosgoda, Ambalangoda, and Ahungalla.

A senior police official said the police identified the suspects involved in the incident, from the CCTV camera footage.

OIC Crime Investigation Branch- SI H.m.siriwardene, SI Liyanarachchi, Sergeant 38531 Guruge, PCS 71412 Priyadarashana, 79033 Saman, 91409 Lakmal, 36413 Chandrasiri, 72315 Saman, 90026 Gamage , 83882 Weerasinghe, are conducting further investigations on the instructions of IP Jaysanka, OIC Kohuwala police IP Dileepa Perera, ASP Samantha Wedage, SSP Muditha Pusella and Senior DIG Wasantha Wickremesinghe.
