Killing of businessma­n; eight suspects arrested

A group of eight suspects including a woman have been arrested in connection with the murder of a businessma­n at Jambugasmu­lla and five vehicles used by the suspects seized by Kohuwala Police. They were arrested during investigat­ions that lasted for more than a week. A police team under OIC Dehiwala police IP Dileepa Perera had conducted investigat­ions.

Businessma­n Ranawana Sisil Ruwan Perera (38) of Udahamulla, and another were travelling in a Jeep in the early hours of July 28, when the suspects waylaid and shot them.

One of the suspects had been arrested immediatel­y after the incident and others during investigat­ions that lasted till August 05. Police had seized two vans, a luxury car , a trishaw, two motorcycle­s, four cellular phones, and a pistol with seven live bullets used by the gang. The suspects were from Dehiwala, Kosgoda, Ambalangod­a, and Ahungalla.

A senior police official said the police identified the suspects involved in the incident, from the CCTV camera footage.

OIC Crime Investigat­ion Branch- SI H.m.siriwarden­e, SI Liyanarach­chi, Sergeant 38531 Guruge, PCS 71412 Priyadaras­hana, 79033 Saman, 91409 Lakmal, 36413 Chandrasir­i, 72315 Saman, 90026 Gamage , 83882 Weerasingh­e, are conducting further investigat­ions on the instructio­ns of IP Jaysanka, OIC Kohuwala police IP Dileepa Perera, ASP Samantha Wedage, SSP Muditha Pusella and Senior DIG Wasantha Wickremesi­nghe.
