Bee honey offering to Sacred Tooth Relic takes place

Performing an age old custom by the Veddha Community offering bee honey to the Sacred Tooth Relic was held at the Maligawa premisses on Saturday morning. Veddha Chief Uruwarigel­age Vannila Ettho and several of his community attended the ceremony. Veddha Chief made the offering at the inner shrine room for the Sacred Tooth Relic under the guidance of Senior Member of the Malwatta Chapter Karaka Sangha Sabha Ven. Thibotuwaw­e Sri Medhankara Thera.

Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Deela who received the Veddha Chief and several of his community hosted them for tea and offered presents.

Addressing the ceremony Veddha Chief said the people had lost confidence in the present rulers in the country and that the need of the hour was a visionary leadership to resolve the issues affecting the people. He pointed out that whatever political party that comes into power should have well discipline­d and people’s friendly leaders who will not create rowdy scenes in parliament.

Meanwhile a group of cinnamon cultivator­s from Batapola in the Galle district headed by Shashis Wedige and Palitha Wedige offered cinnamon to the Sacred Tooth Relic.
