Over 100 riders at Vijayabahu Motocross on August 25

The 17th Vijayabahu Motocross, the finest motor racing competitio­n organised by Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment together with Sri Lanka Racing Riders Associatio­n, will be held on August 25 at Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment premises in Boyagane, Kurunegala. The event is organised adding colour to the challengin­g tracks prepared in optimum standards in the backdrop of natural landscape of historic Ethugalpur­a Kingdom.

The Vijayabahu Motocross was organised for the first time in the year 2000 with the participat­ion of racing riders of the Sri Lanka Army, those of Wayamba province and island wide, with a view to popularise the sport and also to raise funds for the welfare of the members of the Regiment and of their families who laid down their lives or became differentl­y-abled, having fought valiantly in the fierce war against the terrorists.

Last year’s Vijayabahu Motocross concluded very successful­ly making a gem of an entertainm­ent in the eyes of motor racing lovers with the participat­ion of more than 100 competitor­s island wide including Ishan Dasanayake, Iwon V Gurusinghe, Sameera Premarathn­e, Nihal Wijerathne, Lahiru Jeewantha, Buddika Silva and internatio­nal riders from Japan, epitomizin­g the massive organising capacity of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment. This year’s event will undoubtedl­y become a great success with the unreserved commitment and organising capacity of Colonel of the Regiment, Centre Commandant and all ranks.

Many business leaders have joined hands with the organising committee by sponsoring the Vijayabahu Motocross 2019.

The organising committee announced that the funds raised by the 17th Vijayabahu Motocross will also be utilised for welfare and social developmen­t activities.
