Message by the High Commissioner of Pakistan

-

On the auspicious occasion of the 73rd Independence Day of Pakistan, I wish to convey warm greetings from the people and Government of Pakistan to the people and the Government of Sri Lanka.

This day reminds us of the enormous sacrifices made by our forefathers to secure an independent homeland. We also express our gratitude to God Almighty for bestowing His countless bounties on us as an independent and free nation.

Pakistan and Sri Lanka are trusted-partners with historical linkages dating back to the period of Gandhara civilization.

Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with Sri Lanka, which are based on mutual respect, understanding and close cooperation.

Pakistan has always extended unconditional support to Sri Lanka, especially with regard to her national security. I would like to assure the Government and people of Sri Lanka that Pakistan would always stand with them whenever Sri Lanka needs Pakistan’s support.

I would also like to express my sincere sympathies to the families and friends of all those who lost their lives in the terror attacks carried out on Easter Sunday, as well as to those who were injured or otherwise affected.

The Government and the people of Pakistan strongly denounce all extremist tendencies and terrorist activities. Pakistan will continue to extend all possible assistance to Sri Lanka to fight this menace.

At the end, I wish to convey our best wishes for peace, unity, harmony and progress to Sri Lankan Government and

her people.
