Tamil people have the right to decide on their day to day lives: PM

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said yesterday that the right of the Tamil people to make their own decisions on their day to day lives is acceptable. The Prime Minister who was speaking at the inauguration of development work in Gurunagar said that there were persistent issues in the country that had to be resolved and that these have to be resolved by a government which enjoy a majority in Parliament. “There are persistent issues that need to be resolved through a government which enjoys a majority in Parliament. Therefore, we request the people in the North to play a role in giving the government a majority in the future in order to resolve these issues,” the Prime Minister said.
“All people, be it from the majority or from the minority groups, need to live in this country with dignity. The desire of my party and myself is to create a situation where all people in the country could live with dignity,” he added.
The Prime Minister also said his party was agreeable to the proposals that have been made by the Constitutional Assembly on power sharing and on compiling an overall national policy for Sri Lanka.
State Minister of Education Vijeyakala Maheshwaran and TNA MP M. A. Sumanthiran were among those who were present.
