Tax payers’ money wasted on commissions and probes

-

The amount spent on the “Bond Commission” may be more than the rupees eight billion or so allegedly stolen from the Central Bank by unscrupulous businessmen with the help of powerful politicians, businessmen and Central Bank officials.the Commission report was released after months of hearing. The Commission Report seems to be shelved because the President, Prime Minister, Parliament and Opposition are fighting now to appoint one of their choices for the next Presidential Elections to be held soon.

A Commission also was appointed with a panel of eminent persons to inquire into the Terrorists attack on churches and hotels on Easter Sunday, where even the President and the Prime Minster could be summoned; which is yet another waste of public money. It could be assumed nothing would come out of the Commission Report.

His Eminence, Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, immediately after the bomb attack, brought the country under control from further bloodshed.

It is sad to hear that The Catholic Bishops are now pressing for a further impartial probe into the Easter Sunday Attack. Any number of probes by panels of eminent judges and lawyers will not bring back even one of those innocents to life; not even God. It would be a waste of public money and time.the only thing that could be done is for religious leaders of the three religions to preach peace and love among the people. The Government should of course be vigilant and tighten security to prevent acts of terrorism.
