Prize-giving of Gauthama Temple Dhamma School

-

Saddharmakirthi Ven. Sri Omalpe Sumanarathana Thera said the people must give prominence to the individuals who dedicated their life to service of the people, and not those who rise from their deep slumber and stage showoffs during the election campaign.

Addressing a gathering at the prize-giving of the Sisu Nena Udana Dhamma School of the Gauthama Temple at Dabare Mawatha in Narahenpita, Ven. Thera said the people were in a predicament but there was no one to listen to their grievances.

Ven. Sumanarathana Thera was the chief guest of the ceremony while former member of the Western Provincial Council and founder of the Pradgna Pradeepa Concept Jayantha De Silva was a distinguished invitee.

“Jayantha De Silva helped the temple with his allocation without any request from me. We need leaders of his calibre who are prepared to meet the needs of the people who never make unrealistic demands. Unemployment and the high cost of living are the main issues affecting them. The Buddha enunciated that a man worth calling such should never take revenge of a man in trouble. It is a basic principle of Buddhism. In the past the people depended on the advice and the guidance of the Buddhist monks. However it is sad that the Buddhist monks are marginalized today. The children should understand the importance of the guidance of the Maha Sangha. Social values should inculcate in children through Dhamma school education during their formative years”

Secretary of the Pragna Pradeepa Concept Deshabandu A. Sumith Perera, the students of Gauthama Dhamma School, their parents, members of the Dayaka Sabha were present at the occasion.
