Walkers Colombo Shipyard awarded ISO certification
Walkers Colombo Shipyard (Pvt) Ltd was awarded the ISO 9001:2015 certification at a ceremony held at its office recently.
The ISO 9001:2015 certification covers design and construction of small and medium crafts including high speed aluminium crafts, engineering, project management, manufacture and installation of pressure vessels, piping and heavy engineering structures.
The certificate of registration was officially handed over to Dr. Sarath Obeysekera CEO of Walkers Colombo shipyard by URS Indian Auditor Ankur Sangal in the presence
of S. Indrakumar, Managing Director of URS Certification Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, Nimal Gunawardena General Manager (WCS), Hemantha Gamage, Safety Manager (WCS), Chamila Silva Marketing Manager (WCS), Ajith Kariyawasam Production Engineer (WCS), Sujana Soysa Estimation Engineer (CML), and Malan Harischandra.
Dr. Sarath Obeysekera said that it was not an easy task to obtain the international standard certification in this harsh environment of the ship building industry and it was far more difficult to maintain standards.
Ankar Sangul said employees should not be blamed for not following the systems as it was not their fault but the fault in the system. “Always identify where the system is weak, and address that point. Eventually people will adhere to the system. Correct systems and procedures will help mitigate most internal disputes,” he stressed.
