ANDREW JAYAMANNE

The 5th death anniversar­y of veteran cinematogr­apher Andrew Jayamanne falls on August 29. Andrew who worked in several award winning movies passed away in Italy at the age of 71. Negombo-born Andrew joined the Hendala Wijaya Studios in 1962 and worked as a camera assistant before embarking as a fully-fledged cinematogr­apher in several local and internatio­nal films. Having started his career as an independen­t cinematogr­apher in Titus Totawatte’s ‘Haralaksha­ya’, he later worked in that capacity in Sihasuna, Mangala, Sagarika, Maruwa Samaga Wase, Handaya, Palangetiy­o, Seilama, Suddilage Kathawa, Hansa Wilak, Thunweni Yamaya, Wisi Dela, Yasoma and several other movies.

BANDULA VITHANAGE

The 5th death anniversar­y of award-winning dramatist, actor and translator Bandula Vithanage falls on September 1. Bandula who was born in 1940, started his career as a translator in the sixties, later made a name for himself as an actor and dramatist. Among his plays were Eliya, E Sonduru Minisa, Megha Garjana, Gangawak Sapaththu Kabalak, Wenisiye Welenda, Senehebara Dolly, Hiru Dahasa, Romaya Gini Ganee 1 and 2 and several others. He also acted in several films and tele dramas.
