Petes, Ratnayake Central emerge champs

Defending champions St. Peter’s College, Bambalapit­iya and A. Ratnayake Central, Walala retained the Boys’ and Girls’ overall titles respective­ly at the All-island Schools Relay Championsh­ip which concluded at the Sugathadas­a Stadium in Colombo yesterday.

In fact, Ratnayake Central retained the Girls’ overall title for the fourth successive year and they also retained the overall Mixed Schools Championsh­ip title.

St. Peter’s dominated the three-day meet and accumulate­d a total of 82 points while A. Ratnayake Central came in second with a total of 55 points and St. Benedict’s College secured the third spot with a total of 45 points.

In the Girls’ category, A. Ratnayake Central finished well ahead with a total of 180 points. Dharmapala MV, Panniptiya were placed second with a total of 55 points followed by Sir John Kotelawala MV, Kurunegala in third place with a total of 53 points.

Meanwhile, in the Mixed Schools Championsh­ip A. Ratnayake Central retained the overall title for the third year while collecting a total of 125 points.

Holy Cross College, Gampaha were placed second with a total of 79 points and Dharmapala MV, Pannipitiy­a were placed third with a total of 43 points.

A total of 34 new meet records were establishe­d with 17 each in the Boys’ and Girls’ categories.

Ratnayake Central stole the limelight with six new meet records while St. Peter’s accounted for four meet records. Age Group Champions: (Boys’ U-12): 1. Science College, Mount Lavinia (20). 2. St. Joseph Vaz, Wennappuwa (14). 3. Maris Stella, Negombo (5).
