WILL ESTABLISH LEADERSHIP THAT DOES MORE WORK THAN TALK: GOTA

- BY LAHIRU POTHMULLA

SLPP Presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa yesterday said they would establish a leadership in the country that would do more work instead of mere talk.

He expressed these views at the Cooperative National Summit which was held at the SLECC in Colombo.

Mr. Rajapaksa said the previous Rajapaksa government created a number of housing complexes for low income families in Colombo maintaining a rapid development.

“We have shown that not only we can strategise, but also can deliver. The public sector was accused back then of being inefficient. But, it was that public sector which assisted in developing the country and ending the war. We achieved this through a proper leadership and guidance. We will establish a leadership and a government which executes duties, a leadership that does more works than talks,” he said.

At the conference, a special ‘sannasa’ was handed over to Mr. Rajapaksa by cooperative representatives.

He said a SLPP government would create a proper mechanism to identify the issues faced by cooperative communities and solve them. “I will forward this document to be referred to when drafting our presidential election manifesto,” he said.

He said he would ensure that cooperative service would be given due recognition and prominence during a SLPP government to uplift the standards of the communities.

“The cooperative fund has been misused for other purposes in the past. We will introduce laws and regulations to limit cooperative funds to be used only for its affairs,” Mr. Rajapaksa said.

SLPP Leader and Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa and SLPP MPS attended the event.
