Annual Field Training Exercise of SL Army held in Trinco
Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said that at present the global, regional and domestic security is challenging as never before and the security landscape gradually changing and becoming more challenging with hybrid threats.
He revealed this at the final exercise of ‘Cormorant Strike X - 2019’, the annual Field Training Exercise organized by the Sri Lanka Army, held at Kuchchaveli in Trincomalee, on Monday.
Chief of Defence Staff, Admiral Ravindra C. Wijegunaratne was the chief guest at this event. General Officer Commanding, Special Service Group (SSG) of the Pakistan Army Major Gen. Hussain Mumtaz was also present.
The three-week long combined exercise commenced on September 3 with the participation of a combined Tri Forces participation of 2,400 Army, 400 Navy and 200 Air Force personnel and over 80 foreign military representatives and observers from Malaysia, Maldives, Nepal, Russia, Bangladesh, China, India, Pakistan, Indonesia, Nigeria and Zambia.
A number of mock operations were conducted in several parts of the country including Trincomalee, Kandy, Pulmoddai, Nilaveli, Colombo, Sigiriya, Gomarankadawala, Wadumunei, Mannar, Balapitiya and Nuwaraeliya.
The final operation showed how a simulated multipronged joint amphibious attack could be performed with precision on enemy hideouts in a setting, considered hostile and challenging.
Exercise Director Major General Laksiri Waduge said that the joint exercise was designed to empower the experience pre-arranged to soldiers of the Special Operations Forces (SOF).
Navy and Airforce Commanders, senior Tri Forces officers and a large number of officers and other rank personnel were also present to witness the final crack down operation
