TPT Hockey Carnival on September 28
The past stickers of Trinity, St.peter’s and S. Thomas’ Colleges have put their shoulders together to organize the Annual Seven-a-side Hockey Tournament which will be played on Saturday, September 28 at St. Peter’s College ground. All three schools have played the game for several decades and have produced many who have donned Sri Lanka jersey.
The TPT hockey carnival is organized for the wellbeing of hockey as a sport and to maintain and strengthen ties between the three schools. Plans are afoot to have this as an annual event hosted by one of the organizing schools. St Peters’college, Colombo will be hosting the carnival this year. The inaugural tournament was hosted by S.thomas’ college in September 2015.
The tournament will be conducted in six age categorizes, namely – Under-14 and Under-16 first XI teams, along with the 20 to 30, 30 to 40, 40 and over old boys age categories. This will be a very rare occasion where stickers of the three schools who are over forty will be turning the hands of the clock at this carnival.
The Peterite old boys’ teams walks in to this fifth edition of the tournament as champions of all three categories and will try to defend their championship on home soil. In the schools arena, S. Thomas’ College will defend their first XI championship, whilst St. Peters College and Trinity College Kandy will defend their titles in the Under-16 and Under-14 age groups respectively.
The opening ceremony will be graced by the Presidents and Senior Officials of the Old Boys Associations of all three schools along with the decorated Peterite sportsman Dinesh Kakulthota. The event will commence at 8.00 am, whilst the closing ceremony and distribution of the awards will be graced by special invitees of St. Peter’s College lead by the Principal, Rector and Warden of the three schools commencing at 5 pm.
