Strike suspended pending outcome of discussion­sgen.sec. SLASA

General Secretary of Sri Lanka Administra­tive Service Associatio­n Rohana de Silva said yesterday that the continuous strike that was scheduled to be staged island-wide today was suspended because the Cabinet sub-committee has called for an urgent meeting regarding their profession­al problems including the salary anomalies.

A membership of 2,400 officers has participat­ed in this action, according to the associatio­n

If there was no acceptable solution to the main demand: remedy of the salary anomaly, and a limited action that had been started from September 12, would be implemente­d till tomorrow (1)

He said that a continuous strike would commence from Wednesday (2) if there was no acceptable solution to the main demand: remedy of the salary anomaly, and a limited action that had been started from September 12, would be implemente­d till tomorrow (1) until such time that the decisions taken by the Ministry of Finance will be implemente­d on their observatio­ns.

He said that a final solution would be expected at the discussion that is being held with the Finance Minister, Mangala Samaraweer­a. He also said that there was a possibilit­y of arriving at a certain decision through the participat­ion of the cabinet subcommitt­ee on this occasion.

The associatio­n said that they had reported sick on September 10 and 11 and a profession­al course of action has been taken to engage in work to rule only and to boycott government functions and not engage in any other official duty other than the duties entrusted to them. A membership of 2,400 officers has participat­ed in this action, according to the associatio­n.
