Prison Dept: Wearing badges of higher ranks sans authority

-

The promotion interviews of five prison superintendents were held on 17th September 2019.All of them are to be promoted to the next rank in the department of prisons which is that of the “Special Grade Superintendent”. It is a well known fact that the rank is “SSP”. For the past one year these gentlemen have been already wearing the badges of this rank on their uniforms when they are not eligible to do so even without the relevant gazette notification being published.the promotion interviews were held a few days ago and it is a laughing matter to note that these gentlemen had worn the badges of the SSP rank when they attended the said interviews.the interview board that comprised to had not realized this situation which is a total rundown on the reputation of the public service of Sri Lanka.these gentlemen are yet superintendents but go beyond to be known as prison commissioners of official capacity with their ranks and appointments even printed in all letters of correspondences with the respective stamps and franks.this has to be corrected with proper instructions and intervention through your esteemed Public Services Commission without undue delay. If not all the state and public service employees may start to make this alarming and awkward system to have their ranks and positions elevated to higher appointments at their own will. I strongly suggest that an inquiry be convened in this regard and stem disciplinary action be taken against the culprits at your earliest convenience. I wish to enlighten the public through the electronic and print media as this type of fraudulent systems would to tarnish the good image and reputation of public servants in our country.
