PADDY AND VEGETABLE FARMERS WORST AFFECTED IN FLOODS

Paddy and vegetable cultivations in several areas including Mulatiyana, Polwatta, Koswatta, Hirigalgodella, Naganaduwa , and Mehimulla in the Beruwala division have been destroyed by floods. Farmers said paddy fields on the verge of harvest were the worst affected and that thousands of families who depended on paddy and vegetable cultivation were in a predicament due to the loss livelihood .

They pointed out that the officials had not yet taken any step to carry out an inspection of the havoc caused by heavy rains and floods and to pay compensation.

However, Kalutara Govt.agent U.D. C.jayalal said he would instruct the Agrarian Services Officers and the Agrarian Insurance Board officials to look into the issue.
