Peddlers selling food items in train arrested
Railway authorities arrested four peddlers selling food to the passengers in a Beliatta bound express during a raid at the Kalutara Railway Station.
A senior Railway Security official said the vendors and singers had been warned to refrain from selling food and other articles including books and singing in trains much to the inconvenience of the passengers. He said the vendors would not adhere to the food safety regulations which posed a threat to public health. The official said they would continue the raids in trains and at the railway stations.
The four peddlers arrested by the railway security officers were produced before Kalutara Chief Magistrate Chandima Edirimanna who fined them Rs.1,000 each.
Railway Security Inspectors CI Kodituwakku, Sergeant K.nissanka and Security Officer N.a.sudasinghe had carried out the raid.
