Tight security at places of religious worship

The Police Headquarters stated that it had taken necessary steps to strengthen security arrangements at all places of religious worship including Christian churches and temples on a written request to the President by Archbishop of Colombo Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith. A senior officer of the Police Headquarters stated that in addition to that, steps had been taken to consolidate security in public places.

The President has requested the acting IGP to focus his attention after Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith sent a letter to the President explaining the situation.

The senior officer of the Police Headquarters said that the acting IGP C. D. Wickramarathna had instructed all senior police officers to take precautionary measures to avoid any extremist attacks.
