Oh! Shakespeare, thou hath erred

-

It was an evening to remember thy craft on the stage. Even after centuries later thy flame was alive at the Bishops College auditorium. Thanks to YMCA and Rotary Club the girls in the city schools who excelled in the English medium were fortunate enough in testing their skills at the stage performance in a contest.

Each school was allocated a number rather than calling them by their school name. I was one among the spectators, though not an expert in stagecraft. The four teams took their individual turn, one after the other, after which there was a break of 10 minutes which lasted for 30 minutes. The girls from all four schools were waiting in the audience with their escalating heart beats to see the results.

The audience was pleased with the work of the kids but not with that of the judges. However when coming out, the kids had different opinions on the judgment and the different tastes of the different judges, who had taken into consideration different affiliations and individual animosities with some of the trainers of some schools

Oh Shakespere! Then only we saw thy fairness visually. Those who excelled in stagecraft and the best actress were awarded individually. But amazingly, they were not among the winning teams. However, the audience had adjudged otherwise. The team that performed well in stagecraft and in acting with colorful costumes and in the plosive English language scored less marks than those who were adjudged best by the judges.

The audience was pleased with the work of the kids but not with that of the judges. However when coming out, the kids had different opinions on the judgment and the different tastes of the different judges, who had taken into consideration different affiliations and individual animosities with some of the trainers of some schools. The audience silently expressed their disagreement with the judges as they jointly looked down upon the arbitrary verdict which was not justifiable in terms of dramatic values that thou brought to the literary world, but inflicted injuries to the little hearts.
