John Wick female led spin-off

-

The third film in the John

Wick franchise opened earlier this year earning $323 million worldwide. Now Lionsgate is moving forward with an action spinoff, Deadline reported Tuesday, that will centre on a young female assassin. While there is no word on

Keanu Reeves’ involvement on-screen, he will be an executive producer on the Len Wiseman directed film.

Basil Iwyank, Erica Lee and Chas Stahleski will also serve as producers. Ballerina was written on spec by Shay Hattan, who was a writer on John Wick: Chapter 3—Perabellum. Unity Phelan was in the third instalment

as Ballerina, though there is no word on who will take the lead role. The news comes after the box office success earlier this year, making the film the highest grossing home entertainment title for Lionsgate in five years. Halle Berry, Kaurence Fishuburne and Asia Kate co-starred.

While Reeves will certainly return as the eponymous title character, along with Stahelski

(Reeves’ former stunt double on The Matrix) as the director, it remains unclear if other John

Wick 3 characters will be back. There is already a John Wick 4 scheduled to be in theaters May 21, 2021, but there is are no storyline details yet available. The franchise began in 2014 and collectively has earned $581 million worldwide.
