Tiras celebrates 10 years

of decadent desserts & bliss in every bite

-

Approaching its 10th anniversary, Tiras continues its decade-long commitment to premium desserts. Aptly named after the Hebrew word for ‘desire’, Tiras is a business that meets the longstanding demand for traditional desserts and puddings. Catapulted to the Colombo dessert scene with its ‘not-so-traditional’ chocolate biscuit pudding, featuring layers of rich mousse between chewy biscuits, Tiras has grown through excellent service and word of mouth. Having begun operations in October 2009, it was this dish that caused a stir, leading to an influx of orders and the inclusion of other items on the Tiras menu. Run by baking aficionado, Nirupa Fernandez Homer – Vanniasinkam, this baking entity has gained popularity through its much-hyped Christmas and Avurudu bake sales, in recent years.

Completing its 10th year of operations, Tiras had rebranded itself with an exciting new look and logo to mark the occasion and has some exciting news: 20 of the business’ top clients will receive surprise gifts as tokens of appreciation for their longstanding loyalty. Speaking about the secrets of her success, Nirupa shares that ‘consistency and orders that are always fresh and tailor-made to meet client requirements’ are what has kept Tiras in business for the past 10 years. Her ethos is that quality rules the roost, which means that she never compromises on using the finest ingredients in her desserts.

With plans to focus more on puddings and desserts - given the lack of bakers who specialise in traditional sweet dishes like the universally acclaimed, caramel pudding, which, in a perfect world, is always steamed to perfection - Tiras envisions ‘bringing the taste of home even closer.’

In the immediate future, customers can expect the introduction of old fashioned steamed puddings such as creamy caramel pudding and sticky toffee to name a few, that’s based on old family recipes. Nirupa also hopes to add gourmet desserts, which she claims will be the true pièce de résistance of any dining table, to her repertoire. For corporates racking their brains to come up with a hamper that’ll be remembered and thoroughly enjoyed, there’s good news: Corporate gift boxes and hampers that can be customised to almost any budget are also on the cards for Tiras. Until then, however, anyone with a sweet tooth and a healthy appreciation for decadent, high-quality desserts will have to place individual orders with Nirupa by contacting her directly.
