AN EXCITING VISITING TO MALAYSIA AND SINGAPORE

- Sarada Nilhan Kulathunga Grade 6 Thurstan College Colombo

After finishing my scholarship exam my parents took me to a restaurant. When we were having lunch my brother said to me, “Malli …we have a surprise for you.”

Then they showed me air tickets; I was amazed. I could not believe it. It was to Singapore and Malaysia. I could not say a word.

In the evening we carried our heavy luggage and went to the Katunayaka Airport. We found our comfortable seats. A few minutes later the pilot uncle announced that we were ready to fly. We were very happy. We saw the clouds which were like cotton candies. It took three and a half hours to reach Malaysia. The pilot finally said “Now we are landing in Kuala Lumpur”.

Our close relation, uncle Kalingu came to take us to their condominium. He showed us many things while we were going; there were buildings and skyscrapers. A few moments later father brought us satay and fried chicken. It was really tasty. My father also bought a Nasi lemark, a special rice in Malaysia. After a rest at my uncle’s apartment, we began our journey to see the town. We went to a few shopping malls. They were really big. We saw Petronas Towers. It was in the Kuala Lumpur city. And we went to the KL tower. It was an amazing experience - we were in a really tall building. There was a restaurant. We had a nice lunch. We went to China town. There were many shops and mini restaurants.

Then we went to Batu caves. Behind the cave there is a huge statue of lord Shiva. Inside the cave there were ponds. There were thousands of bats and pigeons too. We had to climb approximately 2000 steps. We bought a packet of corn seeds and gave them to the pigeons. Then we went to a street food place and had Ramly burger. There was a big crowd in the street food place. There were different kinds of food like Rotti bomb, Rotti candy, ABC, Rotti tsunami and many more.

We then went to the famous water theme park “Sunway Lagoon”. We went there in a taxi. The taxies were BMW, Benz, Nissan and luxury cars. But they were cheaper than Sri Lankan cabs. At the Sunway Lagoon there were theme parks called water park, amusement park, extreme park, wildlife park, scream park and lost lagoon. In the park there were fun rides and many things. Also there was an artificial sea with giant waves. We had to swim against the waves. It was really difficult and small children like me burst out crying. Here is a big secret, I am really afraid of water and water animals too. Don’t tell anyone my big secret!!! A few hours later we went to scream park. We had to go inside a scary cave. It was like a horror movie. Nearly 20 or 30 people came to see it. A person started to explain about the park. Suddenly a scary zombie jumped in front of us shouting in a terrible voice. We all began to shout louder than him. I thought I was dead!! My brother had run away and he was crying like a baby. We all got so excited and decided not to go inside. Three to four hours later we went to all the other parks and said good bye to our fun day.

Our plan was to fly to Singapore the next morning. When father told us we were really sad to miss uncle Kalingu and his family in Malaysia. He was with us all the time he could spare.

Next day we woke up early morning and packed our luggage. We said good bye to uncle Kalingu with tearful eyes. He came with us to the bus terminal. We started our journey by bus. It was also a different experience to travel to another country by bus.

Father showed us the border of the countries. On our way we had Cadbury chocolates. We were tired and so we slept. Suddenly, father called me: “Wake up! We are in Singapore now.” We jumped from our seats. We were happy

again. There was no garbage. All the places we saw were really clean. Also people were friendly. We took a taxi and reached our hotel. After several hours we decided to go out. There were a lot of shopping malls and restaurants. In the evening we went to see the famous Merlion Park. It was very beautiful. There were a lot of people taking photos and enjoying its beauty. And then we

saw the famous Marina Bay Hotel. We were really astonished. We had coconut ice creams. They serve it in a coconut shell. We went for some shopping and in the evening we went to the Singapore flyer. It was a nice experience. There were several cabins. It was rotating and when it went up high, we were afraid . But it was very nice. We thought how developed the country is. The roads were like our highways and they seemed to be maintained very well. Then we went to Gardens by the Bay. There was a flower dome, cloud forest, sky way and super tree grove and many more. The flower dome is the world’s largest glass green house. There were colourful lights everywhere. My brother took some nice photos of everything.

We went to our hotel again. Father told us that we have to go back home tomorrow. Aiya and I were really very sad and we wanted to stay longer. The next day we went to the Changi Airport, one of the best airports in the world. We had to leave Singapore but we were happy to come back home too.
