DEHIWALA-MT. LAVINIA MC LAUNCHES RAPID ERADICATION PROGRAMME FOR DENGUE
The Dehiwala-mt.lavinia Municipal Council has launched a Rapid Dengue Eradication Programme to prevent the impending danger of Dengue fever following the heavy rains.
The programme got underway in Pokuna Road, Sylvester Road, Perera Place, and Mihindumawatha in the Ratmalana MOH Division under the supervision of Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Jayalath Gunatilleka.
Dr. Gunatillaka said about 400 premises were inspected and red notices were served on 12 residential houses, where Dengue mosquito breeding grounds were found.
They were warned that they would be liable to legal action unless they kept their premises clean and tidy and free of mosquito breeding.
They were instructed to inform the MOH office soon for inspection.
All storm water drains in the area, that had turned into an eyesore due to obstructions caused to the free flow of water were cleaned by a team of municipal workers.
A large collection of solid waste that had been haphazardly disposed were also removed.
Particular attention was paid to construction sites that were the high risk locations. The contractors of several construction sites where pits, concrete slabs and vessels that created mosquito breeding grounds were warned and were directed to adopt safety measures to prevent danger to public health.
They were instructed to spray chemicals floating on water and effective for a long time to prevent Dengue Mosquitoes from breeding.
Administrative PHI H. Lalith Perera, area PHI Nuwan Madura, Sanitary Supervisor Ravindra Prasad Perera, officers and employees of the Health Ministry Dengue Prevetion Unit, Municipal Storm Water Drainage Unit. Volunteers of the Kawdana West Rural Development Society, Community Police Unit, Municipal Councilor Ruwan Prasanna Feranndo and residents of the area implemented the programme on the instructions of CMOH Dr. Jayalath Gunatilleka, and DehiwalaMount Lavinia Mayor Nawalage Stanley Dias.
