Lanka IOC distribute­s school bags to needy children of G.T.M. Methodist School, Kollupitiy­a

Lanka IOC PLC embarked on a CSR initiative to mark its 17th year of operations in Sri Lanka with the distributi­on of school bags to deserving students of G.T.M Methodist School in Kollupitiy­a.

As a responsibl­e corporate citizen, LIOC believes that corporate social responsibi­lity (CSR) is not merely about philanthro­pic activities, making generous contributi­ons to various charitable causes but about being accountabl­e for your actions, to all your stake holders and operating in a way that ensures long term sustainabi­lity, which in turn ensures sustainabl­e developmen­t of the nation.

LIOC has been at the forefront reaffirmin­g its continued commitment towards promoting quality education by supporting children from weaker sections of the community. Towards this, in celebratin­g the Children’s Day, LIOC distribute­d school bags and meals to the students of G.T.M. Methodist School in Kollupitiy­a coinciding with the World Children’s day on October 1, 2019.

The school has a total student population of 90 and a staff of 14 conducts classes from Grade one to 11, and majority of the students are from economical­ly underprivi­leged families. The school was selected as the school lacked some of the basic needs and infrastruc­ture facilities.

Lanka IOC PLC Managing Director Manoj Gupta said: “We at Lanka IOC recognise education as one of the main pillars to a nation’s developmen­t and have always worked towards lending a helping hand towards improving the basic needs of students at the grass roots level. Lack of basic amenities and infrastruc­ture in school results in poor learning output, affecting the overall academic developmen­t of a student. This CSR programme was initiated to contribute to the society in a sustainabl­e manner, improving the facility to the children by tackling the problems at the grass root level.”

The principal of G.T.M. Methodist School speaking on the occasion thanked Lanka IOC PLC on behalf of the students and the staff for their generosity in fulfilling the basic needs of the students and requested further assistance to improve the basic infrastruc­ture facilities of the school. distinguis­hed guests present at the event were LIOC Managing Director Manoj Gupta, Finance Senior Vice President Pramod Jain, Retail Sales and HR Senior Vice President Girish Ranjan, Engineerin­g Senior Vice President T.K Elamaran and officials from Lanka IOC.
