Located on a 25 perch land at Alfred House Avenue, Colombo 3 is one of the capital’s most sought-after dining spots which recently opened to the public. Aptly named ‘The Avenue’, this warm and cosy space offers freshly prepared dishes encouraging the ‘farm-totable’ concept.

The ‘farm-to-table’ philosophy embraces a sustainable approach to agriculture and dining and places value in eating locally. The cuisine offers comfort food such as juicy burgers, sandwiches, pasta and an array of signature cocktails and spirits. The restaurant also offers a melt in your mouth steak menu for anybody who wants to have a meaty meal. Some of their signature specials on the menu include the Hungry Man’s Burger, Bone in Ribeye, White Fish En-croute, Margarita Pie and Bang Bang Shrimp.

The restaurant is conceptualised and managed by Charitha Sam, Oshan Jayasundara and Shanika Nanayakkara who collectively have over 10 years of experience in the restaurant and catering industry. Having worked as Chef de Cuisine at a famous fine dining restaurant in New York, Charitha Sam had wanted to bring this experience to the Sri Lankan diner. “Then my partners and I discussed about how we could make it standout and thought of introducing specially curated burgers and steaks. On the other hand we also want to promote local farmers, thereby getting fresh ingredients to the table. We use kurakkan, thampala, spinach and other local ingredients in some of our cuisine to bring out that authentic Sri Lankan identity. The main concept is fusion cuisine and there are Italian, Asian and American food items on the menu. We serve burgers and steaks such as Tomahawk specials. People used to eat thinner steaks but when it comes to a Porterhouse or Tomahawk it’s a different experience.we are going to take the customer through the process of preparing a steak. So we would like to invite everyone to come and experience it for themselves,” he said.

The space could accommodate up to 120 people and includes a backyard and two private rooms. As such, it is an ideal space to catchup with friends, business colleagues or for family dining. The outdoor space could be used to host events, parties and fun gatherings.
