THE ADDAMS FAMILY
Lands a sequel just days after it becomes a surprise box-office success
They're creepy and they're kooky, mysterious and spooky, and getting a sequel in 2021. On Monday, it was announced that The Addams
Family 2 is officially in the works. MGM/UAR shares its plans for the follow-up with an anticipated release date of October 22, 2021 according to Deadline.
The animated movie did better than expected over the weekend as it pulled in $35 million, beating out Will Smith's new movie Gemini Man at $23 million. MGM obtained The Addams Family characters after two of the company's producers snagged the film rights from the Charles Addams estate. Addams passed away back in 1988 and
was a cartoonist and created Chas Addams as well as other characters who later became known as the mysterious family.
His estate which is headed by Kevin Miserocchi always wanted to do an animated film and MGM made that wish come true. The movie drew out some A-list celebrity names to play the famous family including: Charlize
Theron as Morticia, Oscar Isaac as Gomez, Chloe Grace Moretz as Wednesday, Finn Wolfhard as Pugsley, Nick Kroll as Uncle Fester, and Snoop Dogg as It.
The first film did well in theatres on its opening weekend thanks to Columbus Day. The new animated flick follows the family who are surprised when they are visited by their even spookier family members.
But, they are soon swooped into a mountain of trouble when TV personality Margaux Needler wants to sell all the houses in the neighbourhood but can't due to the Addams Family's mansion.
