Ja-ela Police toughens up on underage motorbike riders

The Ja-ela Police have implemente­d a programme to nab underage motorbike riders and have already arrested 18 underage school children who were riding motor bikes in a reckless manner and without being in possession of valid driving licenses.

OIC Traffic Branch of Ja-ela Police, I P C.M.D. Senaviratn­a said the arrested are studying in popular schools in Colombo, Negombo, Ja-ela and Kandana areas.

He said two girls aged 15 years were also among the arrested children.

IP Senaviratn­a said that this operation was launched on the instructio­ns of OIC Ja-ela Police CI Nissanka Silva as many motorbike riders who were underage have met with accidents for reckless riding. were arrested in areas of Kudahakapo­la, Ma-eliya, Ekala, Kapuwatta, Tudella and Ja-ela while they were riding motor bicycles in by roads and the main road without valid driving licenses. This raid was launched by IP Senaviratn­a together with Sergeants Nishantha (30882), Gunathilak­a (34741), Silva, PC Kosala (34208), PC Manjula (32056) Pc Dharshana (92465) on the instructio­ns of OIC of Ja-ela Police CI Nissanka Silva.
