Former Treasurer and Minister of the SLFP, Dulles Alahapperuma yesterday urged former President Chandrika Kumaratunga not to become a second Somarama because the grand old party would not withstand if she attempted to align the SLFP with the UNP.

“Talduwe Somarama did the worst damage to the SLFP in September, 1959 by assassinating the founding father of the SLFP, late Prime Minister and Chandrika’s father, S.w.r.d.bandaranaike. Chandrika is engaged in the same conspiracy today to destroy the SLFP by attempting to lean the SLFP on the capitalist UNP,” Mr. Alahapperuma charged.

“One Somarama is more than enough for the country and for the SLFP,” Mr. Alahapperuma added.

He said the safe haven for disgruntled SLFPERS must be found in the progressive forces like the SLPP and not with the UNP.

“Why should the SLFP place its hopes on the UNP to protect it?. If necessary, the SLFP must be protected by the leftist SLPP and added the electoral and district organisers rallying round Chandrika are not even in a position to draw 1,000 votes and many of them are those expelled from the party,” he stressed.

Responding to a journalist at yesterday’s joint press briefing with the SLPP, Mr. Alahapperuma said President Maithripala Sirisena will be given an exalted position in the Gotabhaya Rajapaksa’s administration.

“The UNP’S propaganda campaign is based on three mischievous acts. They keep on spreading lies, statistical lies and absolute lies. Not a single statement carries substance or practical programme.”mr.alahapperuma noted.

Mr.weerakumara Dissanayaka- SLFP spokesman said the joint news briefing was a turning point of the victorious propaganda campaign of the SLPP.

“The agreement of the SLFP – SLPP led alliance, Sri Lanka Freedom Common Alliance will be signed to further strengthen the Gotabhaya Rajapaksa’s election campaign,” he said.
