Samarasing­he emerges new TTSC Pool Champion

Lakshan Samarasing­he from Anantara Resort, Kalutara emerged as the new Travel Trade Pool Champion when he held off a stiff challenge from new comer, Nadun Perera from Infinity Vacations in tense “Cup” final at the Sixth edition of the Travel Trade Sports Club Pool Championsh­ips 2019, concluded at the QN’ Brave Pool Parlour, Wellawatte.

Samarasing­he (2018 “Plate” winner) was seeded as the bottom seed in the absence of 2018 “Cup” Runner-up Ackiel Jameel from Amadeus Lanka, on his way to the final. Lakshan beat Insaf Iqbal from Deithlum Travels, Adhil Gafoor from Deithlum Travels, Akila Nuwanga, former “Cup” winner from Infinity Vacations and Chamith Perera from Fabulos Gateway.

Nadun Perera drawn into the top half, started off, beating Hasitha Kamalanath from Eco Team, and got into top gear from there onwards by eliminatin­g the defending “Cup” winner, Zaheem Sheriff from Classic Travel, then he beat another seasoned player, M.F.M. Azmi from Classic Travel and up and coming, Mindika

32 players took part in the tournament which was sponsored by Yaneesha Travels, Seeduwa for the sixth successive year. The tournament was officiated by the Referees from the Sri Lanka Billiards and Snooker Associatio­n, Chief Referee being S.M. Ibrahim.

Awards were given away by the TTSC President, Bonita Odayar, General Secretary, Dilshan Gnanapraga­sam, Tournament Co-ordinator, Marvan Madanayake and Committee Member, Anushka Perera. - BM
