The government should clarify its stand over the issue occurred at the Gurukanda Purana Rajamaha Viharaya in Nayaru, Mullaitivu, Bodu Bala Sena Organisation said.

Speaking at a media briefing, BBS General Secretary Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera said yesterday the government had not intervened in the issues created during the final rites of the Gurukanda Rajamaha Viharaya Chief Incumbent Venerable Colombo Medhalankarakitti Thera.

“We are ashamed of this government and the Prime Minister for allowing to build up tension among different communities. The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) is with this government. The government is using this opportunity to gain power by supporting the TNA,” he said.

“The TNA wants to have a separate government in the North. Separatism is still in operational in the North and East. The North is already having a separate government at the moment. The Police and its senior officials in the area work according to their agenda,” he said.

Therefore, the BBS requested all Buddhist monks to refrain from attending any court of law until a common legal system is introduced within the country, Ven. Gnanasara Thera said.

“We feel sorry for the government’s attempt to create divisions among different communities. The issue was created for ownership of a Hindu Kovil situated inside the Gurukanda temple. The Hindu Kovil was built long years ago inside the temple premises as there was no place to conduct Hindu religious activities. Earlier, the land was given by the late kings as a donation to build thousands of ‘Sthupa’ to strengthen the Buddhism,” the Thera said.

Speaking at the media briefing a senior member of the Dayaka Sabha of the Gurukanda Raja Maha Viharaya, Manil Karunarathna, said on last Tuesday, the Mullaitivu Police had ordered to suspend the installation of the CCTV cameras at the Gurukanda Raja Maha Viharaya. He said the officers of the Mullaitivu Police had said that there was a court order to the effect no constructions or installations would be allowed in both the temple and the adjacent Kovil premises.
