ANNUAL HANDICRAFT EXHIBITION AND SALE BY LANKA MAHILA SAMITHI

The Lanka Mahila Samithi will hold their Annual handicraft sale to display and popularise their members products in Colombo, which has become a customary and well attended event. Our Samithi from its inception has taken a keen interest in reviving and promoting traditiona­l Sri Lankan cottage arts and crafts among our rural members.

These products are designed to inspire everyone with innovative art, clothing,crafts and unique gift ideas.

Our talented rural members will display a wide array of handicraft­s such as “Indikola” table mats,wall hangings, ekel baskets etc.

Embroidere­d table cloths, cushion covers with artistic designs together with children’s smocked dresses and ladies night wear are also a specialty by our Samithi members.

Uniquely designed Batik Sarees, Blouses, Sarongs, Skirts, Costume jewelry, beeralu and Thatin lace and table mats, delicious traditiona­l sweets like Kavun, Mung Keun, Kokis, pickles, chutneys will also be available for sale.

Visitors can look forward to purchase reasonably priced unique gifts for their friends and relations with a personal touch.

The highlight of the exhibition would be The “Art of Lace” How the ancient art of Beeralu Lace weaving is being kept alive. This would include a live demonstrat­ion of “Beeralu Lace” weaving by one of our talented members.

The sale will be open to the public on the 26 November 2019 at the Lionel Wendt Gallery from 10.00 a.m to 5.30 p.m.
