‘Nursing angels’ of a leading nursing home

- ROHINI COLONNE

The writer was an in-house patient at a leading-private Nursing Home in Colombo 3 for 20 days - twice in ICUS and twice in the Ward, and I had plenty of time to watch the way the nurses work all these days except on the day of my operation.

On December 5, 2016, I was rushed to the Emergency Treatment Unit of this Nursing Home around 5 a.m. presumably dead. By the presence of mind and quick actions of the doctor in charge and his Staff, they brought me back to life. I wish to commend them for their dedication.

I was amazed at their dedication to duty and kindness and I am writing this is to pay my respect and gratitude to all in that Nursing Home

From this Unit I was transferred to the Heart Care Centre for further treatment and it turned out that bypass surgery was required. I had the opportunity to observe the work of the nursing staff for two to three days and I could well believe these nurses are specially trained to handle serious patients by their attention to detail.

I was amazed at their dedication to duty and kindness and I am writing this is to pay my respect and gratitude to all in that Nursing Home.

I watched the natural delight on their faces when a serious patient showed signs of recovery.

After surgery I was kept in the Coronary Surgical Intensive Care Unit for 3 - 4 days. Here again I watched the dedication to duty in a more severe manner.these Nursing Angels are taking care of total strangers who do not even thank them for all that is done for them. Even though I was considered a high risk patient, I recovered very quickly and I did what I could to make their tasks lighter amidst their load of work.

From the CSICU, I was transferred back to the Surgical Ward where I was before being prepared to withstand the operation for about 8 days, where I found the Nursing Angels equally dedicated. After the operation I stayed a few more days in the same Ward and I really enjoyed my recuperation because of the friendly attitude of the staff, from the Surgeon right down to the attendants.

Even though I thanked them profusely for the care given to me, I felt it was not enough. This is why I have written this commendation for the entire country to appreciate the staff of this leading private Nursing Home.
