It was not diplomacy!

There is a lady serving as our country’s envoy in a powerful country in the world. There is a serious allegation against her that despite being a career diplomat, her bias against certain local political leaders influences her judgment in the discharge of her official duties as well.

This lady was serving in an East Asian country prior to her current posting. At that time, the former strongman now Number two had occasion to visit that country as the opposition leader on an official invitation of the very high political authorities in that country.

The mayor of the capital of that country adhering to an official protocol, lost no time in organizing a dinner in honour of the Sri Lankan leader. Our lady envoy based in that capital, on hearing about the move to host the Sri Lankan visitor to dinner, had rushed to the mayor’s office to object to the proposed event and she had later lodged her protest against it with the Speaker and a powerful Minister of that country.

However, the high political authorities in that country had rejected the undiplomatic objection made by the lady envoy and treated the former strongman with honour and hospitality befitting a political leader of a friendly country. The authorities had also later informed the Sri Lankan visitor about the objection made by the envoy adding that they had rejected it. It later transpired that this envoy had acted on the bidding of the Madam who once held high office here.
