Excise detects Brown Sugar Heroin worth Rs.10mn

Colombo Excise Station officials yesterday seized a stock of high quality Heroin Brown Sugar worth over Rs.10 million from three suspects in Kirulapone and Homagama areas.

Working on a lengthy probe the sleuths managed apprehend a man from Kirulapone who had 23 grams of Heroin in his possession last morning. OIC Colombo Excise Station Chief Inspector Chanaka Nanayakkar­a told the Daily Mirror that after having grilled him the investigat­ors learnt that he had purchased the drugs from two men from Maharagama and Homagama areas. With this informatio­n the sleuths then raided a house in Homagama to apprehend the other two suspects along with one kilo of high quality Heroin Brown Sugar. One of the two arrested suspects, who was the owner of the Homagama house, had been identified as a close associate of underworld figure ‘Athurugiri­ye Dilum’, who’s currently serving a life sentence at the Welikada Prison.

The 29-year-old chief suspect of the narcotics case was a father of two children.

Colombo Excise Station officials led by its head CI Chanaka Nanayakkar­a and Excise Inspector Sanjaya Nishantha are conducting investigat­ions with the team Excise Guards Nilantha Rajapaksha, Ravindra Perera, Krishantha Silva, Nalin Priyankara and Lanka Weerasingh­e. Additional Excise Commission­er General Wasantha Dissanayak­e and Assistant Excise Commission­er (Western Province 1) are overseeing the inquiries.

The three arrested suspects were produced before Gangodawil­a Magistrate’s Courts yesterday afternoon and were ordered to be remanded till December 24th.
