Borouge and Falco promote sustainabl­e advanced packaging solutions in Sri Lanka

Borouge, a leading petrochemi­cals company and joint venture between Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and Austria-based Borealis, jointly organised a technical seminar with their agent in Sri Lanka, Falco Internatio­nal Trading Pte Ltd, for rigid and flexible packaging stakeholde­rs.

Falco Internatio­nal Trading Pte Ltd, establishe­d in 1995, is an import and export trading company and acts as agents and manufactur­er’s representa­tive for internatio­nal manufactur­ers of industrial raw materials for the plastics, rubber, tyre and flexible packaging film industries.

Falco also does consultanc­y work for a number of industries, including the water sector. Falco has developed a strong reputation within the Sri Lankan market as a reliable supplier of raw materials to key local industries.

Falco Internatio­nal Trading Pte Ltd Managing Director Shakir Lukmanjee welcomed the gathering to the technical seminar and stated that Borouge was committed to the Sri Lanka market and had been nurturing the Sri Lankan polymer market since 2001.

The technical seminar was held at Spice Room, Shangri-la Hotel, Colombo, recently. The event was full house and well represente­d by all leading converters and value chain members of the Sri Lankan packaging and plastic industry.

Borouge provides innovative, sustainabl­e and value creating plastics solutions for infrastruc­ture (pipe systems and power and communicat­ion cables), automotive and advanced packaging applicatio­ns that address global challenges such as climate change, food protection, access to fresh water, energy conservati­on, healthcare and waste management.

With its base in the United Arab Emirates and marketing and sales head office in Singapore, Borouge employs more than 3,000 people representi­ng over 40 nationalit­ies and serves customers in 50 countries across the Middle East, Asia and Africa.

Borouge Vice President Indian Sub-continent Sandeep Puri highlighte­d Borouge’s commitment for Sri Lankan packaging industry. He mentioned that the Sri Lankan market is a strategic location for subcontine­nt growth story and will continue to provide dedicated technical support to this market to develop value-added solutions for stakeholde­rs. He emphasised Borouge’s commitment and focused approached towards sustainabi­lity and circular economy.

As a responsibl­e petrochemi­cals company, Borouge believes that achieving a zero waste plastics circular economy requires strong and concerted actions by government­s, businesses, consumers and community.

During the technical seminar, Borouge introduced many new products. Anteo – a Bimodal Terpolymer LLDPE based on the latest proprietar­y Borstar Bimodal Smart Catalyst PE technology, offers an outstandin­g sealing performanc­e with superior puncture and tear resistance.

This seminar was the official launch of Borstar FB5600 in the Sri Lankan market. This bimodal HDPE provides superior stiffness, high barrier, low gel, outstandin­g ESCR combined with good processing.

Borouge’s team mentioned and touched on their popular polypropyl­ene random and block copolymer product portfolio and their attributes to achieve differenti­ated solution at the market place. Here, Borouge will bring more market-driven solutions from their next expansion by 2021 with the new PP plant having capacity 480,000MT.

Applicatio­n Developmen­t Manager Middle East, Africa, Europe and Indian Subcontine­nt Peter Malmros conveyed Borouge’s commitment towards circular economy and detailed about its future activities in this area.

Falco Internatio­nal Trading Pte Ltd Director Farida Lukmanjee gave the vote of thanks at the end of a highly successful technical seminar by thanking all the customers for their continued support and cooperatio­n and assured to continue providing superior products from Borouge and to have more technical seminars, regular customer visits and joint trials with customers when needed.
