SRI LANKA ARMY AND AIR FORCE WIN NATIONAL OPEN BEACH VB TITLES
Sri Lanka Army and Sri Lanka Air Force ‘A’ won the Sunquick National Open Beach Volleyball Men’s and Women’s Championships held at the Negombo Beach Park. The tournament was conducted by the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation under three categories. They were open, Under-20 and Under-25 (Men and Women).
In the Open Men’s Final Indika Tyronne and Jayan Sanuja of Sri Lanka Army beat Asanka Pradeep Kumara and Ashen Rasmika of Sri Lanka Air Force 23-21 and 27-25.
The significance of the win was that the Gold Medal winners at the South Asian Games lost to the Silver Medalists.
In the Open Women’s Finals Dinesha Prasadani and Nirosha Lakmini of Sri Lanka Air Force ‘A’ beat Asha Nilmini and W.P. Thishari of Sri Lanka Air Force ‘B’ 21-17 and 21-18.
Sri Lanka Army and MAS Casualine won the Under-25 Men’s and Women’s Championships. In the men’s final Chamika Fernando and Isuru Madushan of Sri Lanka Army beat Dileepa Chamika and Malith Silva of Sri Lanka Air Force 21-13,17-23 and 17-15.
Deepika Bandara and Sulochana Jayawardena of MAS Casualine beat Shehani Asanga and Kasuni Tharaka of Sri Lanka Navy in the Under-25 Women’s Finals 23-21, 18-21 and 10-15.
In the Under-20 Boys’ Championship Srinath Janaka and Harsha Sandun of Maithripala Senanayake National School Medawachchiya beat G.A. Sandaruwan and Nishan Rajan of Wijeba National School Hungama 21-16,21-19.
In the Under-20 Girls’ Finals Dilakshi Harshani and Thasmi Divyangali of Hiradaramani Sports Club beat Jayani Lakshani and Surekha Dilhani of Wijeba National School Hungama 21-9,21-15.
The team which won the Under-20 Boys’ tournament Maithripala Senanayake National School triumphed at a beach competition for the first time.
