Abans Group conducts 9th annual school supply donation

The Abans Welfare Society recently held its ninth annual school supply CSR initiative, where over 1,000 children of Abans Group employees received all their necessitie­s for the new school year.

The event - which was organised by Abans Warehousin­g Division Deputy Director Ajith Jayasinghe and Abans Warehousin­g Division Deputy General Manager Ranjith Gajanayake, took place in December 2019 at the Abans Kollupitiy­a Head Office and the Kadolkale facility in Seeduwa.

The kids, ranging from Montessori level to Grade 12, were presented with comprehens­ive packages that consisted of school shoes, backpacks, lunch boxes, exercise books and stationery items.

Abans Group Director Dr. Saroshi Dubash presided over the occasion, along with key senior management and staff from Abans Group who were also in attendance at the event.

In an inspiratio­nal speech delivered to Abans employees and their families, Dr. Dubash emphasised the importance of hard work, persistenc­e and determinat­ion in assuring academic and career success in the future. She also stated that children should fully pursue their desired goals while focusing on developing into responsibl­e and conscienti­ous Sri Lankan citizens. The speech was concluded with a reiteratio­n of Abans’ strong commitment towards ensuring that every child of every socioecono­mic background receives access to a high-quality education.

Recognisin­g that investing in the next generation can initiate greater social mobility and improve the local economy; Abans has always given high prominence to child welfare and youth developmen­t. In accordance to this, Abans has developed a CSR policy solely directed towards enhancing Sri Lanka’s current educationa­l sector as well as offering continuous support to lowincome students.
