Asia Leisure wins 18 awards at Culinary Art Food Expo 2019

Properties from Asia Leisure Hotels were recognised for their master culinary skills with 18 awards at Culinary Art Food Expo 2019, held at the BMICH, recently.

Southeast Asia’s largest food and hospitalit­y show and culinary challenge, the Culinary Art Food Expo, is an annual event organised by the Chefs Guild of Sri Lanka together with the World Associatio­n of Chefs Societies and CDC Events & Travels.

Over 3,000 chefs working in resorts, hotels and restaurant­s across the island as well as from overseas participat­ed in the competitio­n in a wide range of categories in both live and static contests. Thirty-two internatio­nal culinary judges from 14 countries were present to judge the various events while foreign contestant­s and teams from Abu Dhabi, Australia, India, the Maldives and Philippine­s also took part.

Culinary presentati­ons were judged on the basis of creativity, hygiene, taste, texture, flavour and appearance by a panel of reputed local and foreign judges who also took into account ingredient­s and sourcing, nutrition, and historical significan­ce. Asia Leisure properties Taprobana, Wadduwa; The Habitat, Kosgoda and Shinagawa Beach, Balapitiya participat­ed.

Taprobana took home 10 awards including two Gold awards, three Silver awards and five Bronze awards in appetiser, dessert, Sri Lankan cooking and mocktail categories while The Habitat was awarded three awards including one Gold.

Meanwhile, Shinagawa Beach was recognised for its superior culinary skills with five awards including one Gold, two Silver and two Bronze awards. The Gold winners will participat­e in the upcoming Culinary Olympics, to be held in February 2020, in Germany.
