Cloud Nine Lanka Resort opens in Wilpattu with Rs.80mn investment

Adding a luxury boutique hotel to the Wilpattu tourism belt, Cloud Nine Lanka Resort, Vanathavil­luwa in Kalpitiya was opened last week.

Cloud Nine Lanka Resort has 10 luxury chalets, each with a terrace and features a restaurant for 30 guests, outdoor swimming pool with a kids pool, an elevated lounge with the view of the lagoon and a large garden. The hotel is also an ideal setting for wedding background­s.

All guest rooms are equipped with air conditioni­ng, a flat-screen TV with satellite channels, an electric tea pot, a bidet, a hairdryer and a desk, while every room comes with a private bathroom and a closet.

It is owned by the General Manager of a leading soft toy exporter to Germany and nature photograph­er, Neli Fernando. He said that they had invested around

Rs.80 million and would add a further Rs.10 million to introduce solar heating and lighting and a bio gas plant, which would be powered by hotel waste that would be used for cooking.

Fernando said that since this is the only hotel in the area, they have taken great care towards environmen­t protection when building the hotel and maintainin­g it and also community developmen­t.

“We have trained and recruited young workers who were involved in the constructi­on of the hotel from the area. Most of the vegetables and sea fish are purchased at a higher price from the nearby community, by opening a new market for them. He said that special card promotions would be launched next week as they except over 40 percent gusts to be Sri Lankans.
