Govt. planning a new media culture
Calls on the opposition to make suggestions
Stating that the government is planning to create a new media culture, Minister of Information Communication Technology, Higher Education and Innovation Bandula Gunawardane on Wednesday invited the opposition to come out with suggestions for the same.
“We are going to create a new media culture where there is no slinging mud at anyone. A committee has been appointed to look into this matter. Therefore, we invite the opposition to submit their suggestions to the committee”, the minister said in response to an oral question raised by an UNP MP in Parliament.
“There are some media houses which carried stories saying the current President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had robbed public property. We have never seen media institutions act in such a manner. Therefore we have decided on the need for a new media culture. We expect the opposition to come up with their suggestions on the matter,” the Minister continued.
MP Withanage opined that a time will come when a politician would be forced to own a TV channel to get his viewed aired considering the current trends. Some TV channels work according to the agendas of certain politicians.
