- BY YOHAN PERERA AND AJITH SIRIWARDANA

The Select Committee of Parliament to ensure National Evaluation Capacity in Sri Lanka is to submit a proposal to Parliament on the February 20 to appoint an Independent Commission to evaluate and regulate the development of domestic and foreign-funded development projects.

The Select Committee will also recommend to Parliament to draft a new Bill to enact the Commission.

This was revealed when the special Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) met at the Parliament under the Chairmanship of Deputy Speaker Ananda Kumarasiri yesterday.

The proposed act would empower the Commission to obtain and evaluate relevant information from any institution. The commission will be tasked with providing recommendations regarding the productivity of the policies set forth by the parliament and the projects conducted with the funds allocated by the parliament.

The Commission will look into whether the policies are timely and compatible whilst taking into consideration whether the projects conducted are properly implemented where the public can benefit from them.
