Most private, SLTB buses have obtained CDS to play in buses: Ministry

- BY CHATURANGA SAMARAWICKRAMA

Following the Government’s decision of banning loud music being played in private passenger transport buses, 50 per cent of the Inter-provincial private buses and 90 per cent of Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) buses had already obtained the classical audio songs and high-quality music video CDS and DVDS, the Transport Ministry said.

They were requested to hand over the CDS to remaining buses as soon as possible.

However, the ministry still receives complaints that certain buses continue to play jarring music and broadcast videos which disturb passengers.

It was revealed that the buses which did not receive CDS used to play those irritating music and videos, the Ministry said.

However, Transport Minister Mahinda Amaraweera requested all bus owners and bus crews to stop playing irritating music and videos which disturb the passengers.

The public hotline 1955 is still open for the public to make complaints against bus drivers and conductors. The NTC has the rights to take relevant legal action, the Ministry added.
