Ex-provincial Councillor Rifkhan further remanded till Feb 20

Alleged sale of land on forged deed

Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne yesterday further remanded former Minister Rishad Bathiudeen’s brother Rifkhan till February 20.

Former Provincial Councillor Rifkhan Bathiudeen was produced before Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne yesterday from the remand prison and was ordered to be further remanded.

Rifkhan was earlier remanded over for selling a 78-acre land in Talaimanna­r to a private company under a forged deed.

He was further remanded as the Criminal Investigat­ion Department investigat­ions were not concluded and also on considerin­g a complaint made by complainan­ts counsel over an alleged death threats made to the complainan­t via telephone by an unknown person.

He was accused of an alleged acquisitio­n of 78 acres of land in Talaimanna­r valued at Rs.24 million by a forged deed. The CID had initiated investigat­ion following a complaint lodged by Mohamed Abdul Cassim.
