MEET SUGAR
Sugar came into Taniya’s life when she least expected it after years of not having a pet. Ever since then, she and Sugar have been inseparable.
Q HOW DID YOU FIND YOUR PET?
She was actually a gift from my parents on my 18th birthday. I always wanted a dog, but we never got one because we moved so often. So I pretty much gave up any hopes of having a pet.
Q WHAT’S THE STORY BEHIND THE NAME YOU’VE GIVEN?
Sugar truly is the sweetest. She just has the loveliest personality and is a gentle soul loved by everyone. So I couldn’t think of a more apt name than Sugar.
Q WHAT ARE MEAL TIMES AND BATH TIMES LIKE?
She eats 3 times a day and has a bath every two days. Typically for a Labrador she is forever hungry and I used to feel sorry and give her food, but she became overweight and my poor baby has now been put on a diet.
Q WHAT’S HER FAVOURITE THING TO DO?
She is very playful and she loves one of my plush toys. It’s really cute - Sugar even sleeps hugging it!!
Q WHAT’S THE NAUGHTIEST THING SHE HAS DONE?
She hasn’t done anything naughty as such, but she ate something once and wouldn’t let us pry open her mouth. Thankfully it was just food and not anything poisonous.
Q HOW DOES SHE REACT WHEN YOU RETURN HOME?
She gets very excited and jumps on me. She will then follow me around the house. My parents call Sugar my tail.
Q DOES YOUR PET DO ANYTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY THAT FASCINATES YOU?
I am actually fascinated by the friendship between Sugar and our neighbour’s cat who visits us often. Sugar LOVES her food but will selflessly share it with the cat. And you can usually find them lounging on one of our chairs huddled together.
Q WHAT’S THE BEST THING ABOUT YOUR PET?
Her love. I know dogs in general love unconditionally, but Sugar is something else. Words can’t describe how amazing she is.
Q WHAT WAS THE MOST UNFORGETTABLE MOMENT YOU’VE SHARED WITH YOUR PET?
I got really sick once during exams and Sugar never left my side except to alert my parents when I was feeling worse. She laid by my side continually and I think she helped me recover faster.
Q IS THERE ANYTHING YOU WISH YOU KNEW BEFORE YOU GOT A PET?
It’s a LOT of work!!
